In 1996, a group of business executives and concerned citizens banded together at a local insurance company with the shared goal of finding a meaningful way to support community public safety employees in times of dire need. The Heroes Club was incorporated in September of that year as a 501(c) (3) organization. Though the Club has grown in size and scope to include business, community, and private citizen members, our goal has remained the same: to show unwavering appreciation and support for the public safety officers who serve and protect Carmel and Clay Townships.

The chief instrument of this support is in the form of an accidental death insurance policy that is provided to a designated beneficiary of an officer who loses his or her life in the line of duty serving in Carmel or Clay Townships. The initial policy provided coverage of $50,000.

Following the events of 9/11, it became more evident that our public safety officers place their lives on the line every day to keep us safe. Around this time, our insurance carrier stopped offering coverage to public safety officers. We are grateful to Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company who now protect the families of our heroes.

Over time, coverage was increased to $100,000 and now stands at $150,000 thanks to the members of the Heroes Club who support us each year.

Our policy is issued through Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company, based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and covers the Carmel Police Department and the Carmel Fire Department, as well as officers of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police who patrol Carmel and Clay Townships. Our annual membership dues cover the cost of the insurance premium, which is paid out each January.
